If anyone has material possession and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him,
how can the love of God be in him?
(1 John 3:17)
God is love. Everyone agrees about that. No one wants to live in a world where God is hate. That would have Mars, Ares, Thor and Odin running things. Then again, hate isn't the true opposite of love.
Apathy is the true opposite of love. Having no passions, no pity whatsoever. That would be having Allah rule everything. Allah, according to the Qu'ran, is a true god of apathy. Allah controls everything--good and bad--for his own purposes. The Qu'ran goes on to say that eternal salvation is completely and totally up to Allah. Even the best and most faithful Muslim can find himself in Hell if Allah chooses to put him there. Who wants that kind of god?
Thanks be to God that we have a God who loves us. One who doesn't leave our salvation in doubt until the Last Day. He sent us the assurance of our salvation in this life through His Son. Everyone who believes in Jesus has the assurance NOW that they have the forgiveness of sins. There are no questions about it. Everything is done by Him. Thanks be to God for His mercy. Amen.
