Monthly Theme: Seventh Commandment
The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously.
(Psalm 37:21)
Probably the greatest form of stealing in the world is the lack of generosity. This especially comes in hard economic times when we see the need to account for every penny. It's hard to be generous when there always seems to be more bill at the end of our pay check.
But God calls us to be generous. Jesus tells us, "Give to the one who begs from you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you" (Matthew 5:42). As stewards of God's blessings in this world, He charges us to share them where we see need. This is the essence behind Big Weld's motto in the movie Robots: "See a need, fill a need."
What we have is not ours. We're only managers of what has been given to us. May we be as generous with our material blessings as our heavenly Father has been with our spiritual blessings. Amen.
