Moment of Meditation: Honor Marriage (Hebrews 13:4)
Original Broadcast: June 2010
Monthly Theme: Sixth Commandment
Let marriage be held in honor among all,
and let the marriage bed be undefiled,
for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
(Hebrews 13:4)
The commandment against adultery speaks very highly of marriage. Unfortunately, we live in a world that speaks so dispicably about marriage. Think about what's portrayed on television for our children every day. Marriage is seen as boring and dull. Promiscuity is seen as the exciting road that leads to all the pleasures that you could ever want. But the Bible says that all these pleasures have been reserved for marriage.
The world tells us, "Sex sells." That it does, but what does it sell? Empty promises. False hope. Deeper despair when the high wears off.
What does marriage bring? Promises fulfilled through reliance on each other. Hope for life knowing the ongoing love of a spouse. Deeper understanding of ourselves and each other. Which would you rather have? Amen.
