Moment of Meditation: One Flesh (Genesis 2:24-25)

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
(Genesis 2:24-25)

One Flesh

Through the sexual union, the two involved become one flesh. The sexual union brings a physical, emotional and spiritual bond between the two involved. Many have used this to show that the sexual union is tantamount to marriage in both theological and psychological arenas.

The opening chapters of the Bible show that men and women were created to search out spouses of the opposite sex and become one flesh with them. This comes most clearly from God's own words, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth" (Genesis 1:28).

Only the union of a man and a woman can be fruitful. Why do so many people not understand? Why don't they see God's hand in this design? We're a fallen race. One of the many things we have to repent of is our sins against God's gift of marriage. If you are guilty of one of these sins, repent, receive God's forgiveness and live as God wants you to live. Amen.
