Moment of Meditation: In the Womb (Jeremiah 1:5)
Original Broadcast: May 2010
Monthly Theme: Fifth Commandment
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart.
(Jeremiah 1:5)
Jeremiah claims to have an "unusual" birth. A birth like that of Samson, John the Baptizer and Jesus. One where there was a distinct mission for the child that was to be conceived and born. Jeremiah says that God called him from his mother's womb to be a prophet.
This point goes so far in the understanding of life and its origins. Conception begins life. God has plans for people even when they are in the womb. God doesn't give missions and plans to inanimate objects. God doesn't have a plan for the animals of the world. God has plans for human beings.
Even before conception, God made these plans. What could God's plan be for your child if you're pregnant? What could God's plan be for the child you're trying to conceive? We'll only know when they are allowed to be born and to explore their God-given gifts through life in His world.
God doesn't wait until birth to count the child as precious. Neither should we. Amen.
