Listen to your father who gave you life,
and do not despise your mother when she is old.
(Proverbs 23:22)

Listen

Solomon gives a good reason why we should honor our father and mother. They're the reason we're here. Without our parents, we wouldn't have been born. Without our father and mother coming together, we would not exist. But it isn't just because they gave you life. It's because they continue to be there as an influence throughout your life.

For good or for ill, your parents do play a significant role in your development as a child and into adulthood. Many children say, "I'm never going to be like them!" growing up. But what happens when they're in their thirties and they have children of their own? They're just like their mother or father. Why? The influence that parents have over children.

If this is so among human parents, how much more should it be for our heavenly father? How much more He should influence and affect our lives through His Word. Have you been influenced by Him today? "Listen to your Father who gave you life" and you will be blessed. Amen.
