Monthly Theme: Second Commandment
God said to Moses,
"I AM WHO I AM."
Then He said, "Say this to the people of Israel,
'I AM has sent me to you.'"
(Exodus 3:14)
I AM. Two simple words with a great amount of meaning. Some translations even take this name of YHWH to mean "I exist" or "existence" in general. The world exists because God exists. Without God, there is no existence.
When Moses asks God who to say that He is, God gives him this name to remind the people of Israel that they exist because of Him. God was calling His people out of the house of slavery.
So in Baptism God also calls His people out of slavery to sin. In Baptism He puts His name on you to remind you that you exist because of Him. Through His sent messengers, like Moses, He brings His deliverance to you. Revel in His deliverance today. Amen.
