Moment of Meditation: God Doesn't Share (Isaiah 42:8)
Original Broadcast: December 2009
Monthly Theme: First Commandment
"I am the LORD; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols."
(Isaiah 42:8)
One of the many things we try to teach our children is the ability to share. We try and we try, but sometimes that doesn't happen. They don't want to share. Unfortunately, they have a most wonderful role model: God Himself.
He says Himself through the prophet Isaiah, "My glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols." God doesn't want to share His glory with anyone or anything. That's why He gave us the First Commandment: "You shall have no other gods before Me."
He won't share because there is no one or no thing in the earth or in Heaven that is worthy of glory and praise than the Triune God alone. It is an abomination to give anyone or anything higher glory or praise than God Himself. That's why Luther defined this commandment with the words: "We should fear, love and trust in God above all things." God shares His glory with no one. Amen.
