Moment of Meditation: Let Your Light Shine (Matthew 5:16)
Original Broadcast: May 2009
Monthly Theme: The Lord's Prayer
[Jesus said:] "In the same way, let your light shine before others,
so that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven."
(Matthew 5:16)
Jesus wants your good works to shine. After all, the works you do in Jesus' name are meant for others. The works you do are done to show the Easter joy in which you live. That joy brings out the shine of the Christian life.
Jesus tells us in the preceding verses, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house" (vv14-15). Your works cannot be hidden because they show your true affiliation.
May your works give glory to God as your light shines in the darkness of the world, illuminating the Savior who died and rose for you. Amen.
