Monthly Theme: Jesus' Humiliation
"I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
(John 10:10)
Jamey Johnson has the song "In Color." In it, he tells the story of a young man going through his grandfather's pictures with him. The refrain repeats itself over and over, "A picture's worth a thousand words but you can't see what those shades of gray keep covered. You should have seen it in color."
Unfortunately, that seems to be the way many people see the greatest and most central story in the Bible--simply words written in black and white on paper. Just a simple story like any other. But it is so much more than a mere story to be dusted off once a year and read. It's a story that quite literally takes on flesh and blood and walks around with us. In living color, you might say.
That's what Trinity wishes to do this Christmas season, but also throughout the year--to present the story of Jesus' life, death and resurrection in bold, living color. We'll do that especially when it comes to the week of Christmas with our Sunday School Christmas program and our Christmas Eve service. You are invited to either of those services to see the story leap off the page as it takes flesh and blood even in our midst.
The story of Christmas is a great one, but you should really see it in color. Amen.
