Moment of Meditation: God Sustains (Hebrews 1:3)
Original Broadcast: November 2008
Monthly Theme: First Article
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being,
sustaining all things by His powerful Word.
(Hebrews 1:3)
Not only does God provide everything. God sustains everything as well. Much of this is done in His provision. God sends rain to nourish the crops with water. He provides sunshine for growth and the production of fruit. He provides the mental acumen to create newer, better-producing hybrids of plants so that more crop can be produced in the same amount of space. All this God does to help sustain His creation.
This is also what He calls us to do. The original commandment given to Adam and Eve was this: "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion ... over every living thing" (Genesis 1:28) God commands us to be proper stewards of His creation. Not only for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren. The popular environmentalist philosophy applies here: "Leave the world a better place for those after you."
That God does, but He encourages us to do as well. This is our great responsibility as God's children in this world. Amen.
