Keep your life free from love of money,
and be content with what you have, for he has said,
"I will never leave you nor forsake you."
(Hebrews 13:5)
The writer to the Hebrews tells us to keep our lives free from the love of money. St. Paul tells St. Timothy, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils" (1 Timothy 6:10). St. Paul further tells the Romans, "I would not have known what it is to covet if the Law had not said, 'You shall not covet.' But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness" (7:7-8).
All of this coveting leads to the opposite conclusion to St. Paul towards the end of his life: "I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content" (Philippians 4:11). How can St. Paul say that? The last line of our meditation verse this morning. Jesus' words: "I will never leave you nor forsake you." When you have the Savior's promise never to leave or forsake you, you have everything you need in life. Is it enough for you? That's all we need. Everything else we have in our lives are added blessings. How content are you this morning? Amen.
