Moment of Meditation: With a Promise (Ephesians 6:1-3)

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
"Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise),
"that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land."
(Ephesians 6:1-3)

With a Promise

St. Paul calls this "the first commandment with a promise" because God gives a promise for its fulfillment: "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land."

We honor our parents by showing them the respect they deserve as God's representatives and providing them what they need or require. That is their due for their position in life as our parents.

The promise comes through our reception of the blessings of God. These blessings are a life filled with the love of God and many years. This is the abundant life that God promises to those who believe in Him.

We best show our faith in Him by honoring those He has put over us in every aspect of life. May we continue to do that all the days of our lives. Amen.
