Moment of Meditation: Truly Rich (1 Timothy 6:17-19)
Original Broadcast: September 2008
Monthly Theme: Stewardship
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty,
nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches,
but on God ... thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future,
so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
(1 Timothy 6:17-19)
For whatever reason, stewardship has always revolved around money. Stewardship's not just about money. In fact, stewardship goes so much further than money. Stewardship is all about eternity. It's primarily spiritual and not material.
St. Paul tells St. Timothy to charge the rich in this age to put their trust in God so that they can be truly rich. Being truly rich comes by understanding that Christian have everlasting life here and now even though we are still in the world.
We're not to focus entirely on either end of the spectrum. We're not to focus on our eternal destination to the detriment of our life here. We're also not to focus on our lives here to the detriment of our eternal destination.
The bottom line is proper Christian stewardship is the manifestation of our eternal destination in our world here and now. Properly seen, stewardship is merely Christian living and Christian living is stewardship. How's your stewardship going today? Amen.
