Moment of Meditation: God's Varied Grace (1 Peter 4:10)
Original Broadcast: September 2008
Monthly Theme: Stewardship
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another,
as good stewards of God's varied grace.
(1 Peter 4:10)
They say no two snowflakes are exactly alike. They say no two fingerprints are exactly alike. They say no two people--not even identical twins--are exactly alike. The same is true when it comes to the gifts that God gives to each of His children.
St. Peter reminds us this morning that each of us have different gifts. Some are great organizers. Some are great speakers. Some are great servants. St. Peter tells us further in his first epistle that all these gifts should be done "in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ" (4:11).
The great thing with the variety of gifts that God gives is that everyone has their own personal way they can be good stewards. However, this great individuality does not diminish our connection or our need for the rest of the body of Christ. St. Paul goes into this in his first epistle to the Corinthians (12:12-31). Each of us are individually members of the body of Christ, but we are not the body by ourselves.
Both St. Peter and St. Paul remind us that our best service to the body of Christ is to use the special gifts that God has given to each of us for the service of the body of Christ and the world around us. Together we can do more than being separated. Amen.
