Country Song: "Desperado" by the Eagles
And [the thief] said, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
And He said, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
(Luke 23:42-43)
The repentant thief on the cross next to Jesus is the greatest example that it’s never too late to come to faith. He’s nearing his dying breath when he truly believes that Jesus is the Son of God and the promised Messiah.
Many have used this to wait and make “deathbed confessions” to purge a lifetime of sin at the very last moment. The Eagles had one of their greatest hits with “Desperado.” The closing line of the song comes to mind every time I read about the repentant thief:
You better let somebody love you, before it’s too late.
Jesus tells the church in Laodicea, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20).
Are you continuing to keep the door to your heart closed as Jesus stands and knocks? Or has your door been opened by His gift of faith? Amen.
