Monthly Theme: Names of God
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.
(He was priest of God Most High.)
(Genesis 14:18)
God calls Himself El Elyon when Abraham meets Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of El Elyon. Truly this name means "God Most High" ... the highest and most powerful God there is. This is the name through which Abram is blessed by Melchizedek. This is the name through which the three young men were delivered from the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:26). It was through this name that Nebuchadnezzar was placed as king of Babylon (Daniel 5:18). It is this name that the demoniac in the land of the Gerasenes gave to Jesus: "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?" (Mark 5:7; Luke 8:28).
This is the name that shows that the Triune God is above every other so-called god in our world. Who is your God? Is it God Most High? Or is it something else? Search your soul and see who or what is truly the most high priority in your life. If it is not the true God, turn to Him and repent. If it is the true God, turn to Him and thank Him for the gift of faith He has given to you. Amen.
