Moment of Meditation: Narnian Revelation (Revelation 9:20)
Original Broadcast: June 2008
Monthly Theme: Chronicles of Narnia - The Last Battle
The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues,
did not repent of the works of their hands
(Revelation 9:20)
Lewis' portrayal of the Book of Revelation in Narnia is extremely outstanding. The greatest intricacy worked itself into Narnian daily life as the sheer apathy towards all belief. When Tirian and his company captured Puzzle the Donkey to expose the Ape's lie, they shows him to a group of Dwarfs. The Dwarfs didn't care anymore whether there was a Tash or Aslan or any meaning in life at all. "We're on our own now. No more Aslan, no more Kings, no more silly stories about other worlds. The Dwarfs are for the Dwarfs" (83).
Today there is a non-competitive worldview concerning religion. There's the mentality that "all roads lead to Heaven." There's also, "It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you believe." That's complete nonsense. It does matter. It matters greatly.
Belief in Jesus' sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins as the ONLY way to get into Heaven makes the difference between everlasting glory and everlasting torment. What matters more than that? Amen.
