Monthly Theme: Chronicles of Narnia - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
I fed you with milk, not solid food,
for you were not ready for it.
(1 Corinthians 3:2)
In the last moment that a Penvensie can set foot in Narnia, Lucy becomes distraught. It's not that she'll miss Narnia. It's that she'll miss Aslan. The only problem was that Aslan wasn't confined to Narnia. His country was outside the world of Narnia--finding it was the quest of the Dawn Treader.
Aslan reveals to Lucy and Edmund that he is known in our world: "But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there" (247).
Lucy and Edmund were too old. Narnia is a place only for the children of Adam and Eve. So St. Paul tells us that the stages of the Christian faith mature from milk to solid food. Just as an infant goes from his mother's milk to strained food to solid food.
Aslan told the children that it was time for them to go on to the next stage: learning about him in our world as the God who became Man to purchase the forgiveness of sins. What stage are you in? Are you still with the milk or are you in the solid food? Trinity has opportunities for all to grow in their faith in every stage. Contact me if you're interested in growing in your faith with us. Amen.
