Moment of Meditation: How Great Thou Art (Genesis 1:1)
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
(Genesis 1:1)
Carl Gustaf Boberg wrote (LSB #801.1):
"O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed;
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!"
It's a very simple, powerful statement in this verse of the hymn. We look around and see that He is a powerful Creator. But just looking at Creation won't tell us much about God except that He is powerful and has a unique perspective and even a sense of humor at times. In order to learn more about GOd, we need to go where He has revealed Himself to us--Holy Scriptures. The pages of the Bible reveal many things about God that we cannot find just by looking at nature: His holiness, His hatred of sin, His sending of His Son, His plan of salvation for fallen sinners. For all these things, and even more, we need to study the Bible. Take a few moments today to. Read--even for just a few minutes--and see what the Bible reveals to you today about your great God. Amen.
