Amazing grace--how sweet the sound--
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
was blind but now I see!

"Amazing Grace"

The grace of God is truly an amazing thing. Scripture comes with so many references to God's coming to sinners and making them His people. Jesus tells His disciples, "You did not choose Me, but I chose you" (John 15:16). Jesus tells many parables concerning searching for lost items. All these show the wonderful, amazing grace of God that He would come and find sinners who wanted nothing to do with Him and make them a people of His own through the preaching of His Word.

That amazing grace never loses its amazing quality. The hymn continues, "When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we've no less days to sing God's praise than when we'd first begun" (LSB #744.5). The only way we can spend eternity with God is because of His grace. Without it, we'd be condemned to Hell. But God has been amazingly gracious to you and given you eternal life. Take a moment to ponder this amazing gift and to thank the amazing Giver. Amen.
