Moment of Meditation: Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me (Matthew 8:24)
And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea,
so that the boat was being swamped by the waves;
but [Jesus] was asleep.
(Matthew 8:24)
This story was the setting for Edward Hopper's hymn "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me," a prayer asking Jesus to guide us through our lives. He calls life on earth as a tempestuous sea with "unknown waves", "hidden rock and treach'rous shoal" (LSB #715.1). Throughout all this, the prayer continues, "Chart and compass come from Thee. Jesus, Savior, pilot me."
There's a popular bumper sticker that says, "Jesus is my co-pilot." Doesn't that sticker make you think, "Isn't Jesus sitting in the wrong chair?" Jesus does guide you, as a Shepherd guides His sheep, throughout this life. Spend a little time today looking through His Word for the direction He has for you to go in your life. Amen.
