Moment of Meditation: We Shall Not All Sleep (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
(1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!!
Paul gives us a mystery. Personally I like mysteries. I grew up reading Agatha Christie novels and watching shows like Perry Mason, Matlock and Murder, She Wrote. There's a great deal of fun that can be had with a good Whodunit? story. Paul gives us a great mystery to ponder this morning.
Not everyone will die before the Last Day. There will still be believers on the earth. They will not have been taken away to avoid tribulation. They will be on earth, persevering just like every other saint that has ever lived through persecution and trial. Not everyone will die, but everyone will be changed. The change from the mortal body to the immortal will be instantaneous. One moment we'll be in our normal bodies. The next we'll be in our heavenly bodies. "For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on the immortal" (v53).
How will this happen? I don't know. Paul doesn't tell us. He probably doesn't know either. Why will this happen? Because God said it would. When will this happen? When Christ returns. What other answers do I have? Not many. That's why Christianity is a faith and not just a set of facts. We're not given all the answers. That gives us many mysteries to discover in the Scriptures. I invite you to open your Bible today and see what mysteries lie there for you today. Amen.
