Moment of Meditation: Mocked! (Matthew 27:28-29)
And [the soldiers] stripped [Jesus] and put a scarlet robe on Him, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head and put a reed in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"
(Matthew 27:28-29)
The movie "The Passion of the Christ", I've been told, depicts this mocking of Jesus in very graphic detail. Truly, it was a very bloody time.
The laughing mockery of the soldiers as they dressed Jesus up as a king and then beat and spit upon Him. How little they realized that they were telling the truth. Jesus was the King of the Jews. There is no denying that Jesus fulfilled everything that the promised Messiah was supposed to do.
The mockery continues today. Every time we think that we can do something to help our salvation, it is just like walking up to Jesus on the Cross, spitting in His face and saying, "I don't need you."
But God will not be mocked. Jesus was mocked by the soldiers as part of His Passion. When the mockery is over, the King of the Jews and the Gentiles takes His throne as He is lifted up on the Cross. Amen.
