Moment of Meditation: Twist of Fate (Matthew 27:21)
The governor again said to them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" And they said, "Barabbas."
(Matthew 27:21)
It was a quirky twist of fate that Jesus had on the morning of Good Friday. Here the crowd was faced with a choice. Do they release the Son of God or the notorious criminal named Barabbas (whose name means, "Son of the Father")?
No matter who the crowd chooses, one "Son of the Father" will be released and the other condemned. That's a choice that we have on a daily basis. Which "Son of the Father" do you choose?
The choice is Jesus as our suffering, dying Savior or Jesus as a great moral teacher and example. We live in a society that wants to be able to get along and not have people "rock the boat."
But Jesus is all about "rocking the boat." When He came to earth, it was to turn everything that we know about God and us upside down and inside out. We come to see that our relationship with God is not made better by our works but by Jesus' Passion. His mercy and sinless life is what makes every baptized Christian acceptable to God.
Which "Son of the Father" have you chosen? Amen.
