Moment of Meditation: Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
"For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
(Isaiah 9:6)
The final name in Isaiah's list seems to be the most prevalent today. The "Prince of Peace" is what everyone wants. However, many think this title for Jesus promotes a more tolerant people--people who don't mind what goes on in the world as long as it doesn't affect them.
The idea that peace means tolerance of everything is far from the truth. Peace is not a tranquility of mind and body. It is a cessation of war. The peace that Jesus brings is the end of the war that is in each one of our hearts.
Jesus rules as a "Prince" as He is lifted on the Cross. There He battles the final battle against Satan. He wins. Satan did everything he could. He even killed Jesus, but Jesus raised Himself from the dead. Jesus brings the Peace that we no longer have to worry about the outcome of the war. Jesus won the victory for you. All of His merits that He gained in His war you receive from His hand. Amen.
