Moment of Meditation: God's Stewards Live with an Awareness of the Present and Future, of Time and Eternity (Revelation 14:13)
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Blessed indeed," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!"
(Revelation 14:13)
God's stewards live intentionally in the light of God's eternal purpose while being firmly committed to His rule in the here and now.
Christians live in a "now, not yet" conundrum. Those who have been baptized have eternal life and all Christ's blessings now, but they are not yet complete and perfect. As we celebrated All Saints' Day at the beginning of this month, we remembered those who have gone before us who now "rest from their labors" (Revelation 14:13). We were also reminded that we are the saints of God while still living on this earth. As St. Paul writes to the Philippians, he addresses his letter "to the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi" (1:1b). Did he write this letter to a group of dead people? No. He wrote it to others in the same "now, not yet" conundrum.
Truly blessed are those who die in the Lord, but even more so those of us who continue to live under Him in this world. Amen.
