Moment of Meditation: Pure in Heart (Matthew 5:8)

"Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God."

"Pure in Heart"

Are you pure in heart? Is there really anything "pure" in this world? Even Ivory™ soap can only boast of being 99.44% pure. But 99.44% pure isn't pure enough for God. God wants hearts that are completely free of all corruption, impurities and sin. The only way He can get that is by cleansing your heart Himself by means of Baptism.

How pure is your heart? In the Bible, "heart" is the center of all life--physical and spiritual. It is where the passions, thoughts, desires and affections originate. Jesus said concerning our hearts, "What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart ... evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander" (Matthew 15:18-19). Your heart's not very pure. But through Baptism, Absolution and Holy Communion He gives you a pure heart. Amen.
