The 2002 Apple Cup is one of the most iconic games in the century-plus old rivalry. Entering the game, the 6-5 Huskies were once lost in a disappointing season but found life in part due to a championship their coach made up. The Cougars were 9-1 and the third-ranked team in the nation. A win would guarantee the Cougs spot in the Rose Bowl and keep their hopes at a National Championship alive.
The game featured some controversial calls, five missed field goals, three overtimes, and an injury to a star QB. Five of the key players for the Huskies told the story of that season, that game, and that backward pass.
