Moment of Meditation: Let Your Light Shine (Matthew 5:16)
"Let your light shine before others."
(Matthew 5:16)
"This little light of mine I'm gonna let it shine. Let it shine, all the time, let it shine." The children's hymn holds us accountable for letting the light of our faith shine before our neighbors. This was the original purpose for the Israelites in the Old Testament. They were set apart--sanctified--to let their faith show to the nations around them. Their problem? They showed their neighbors their faith, but they said it was just the same as their neighbors'.
The issue hasn't changed. In America, tolerance is demanded for all religious views--with the exception of Christianity's intolerant views. Jesus being the only Savior from sin. Personal accountability for sin and the existence of Hell. These things are not tolerated in our society today.
Does that make them less true? If society says something is ok, does that make it true for Christians? No. We cannot take our morality or faith from what is popular at the moment. Christianity doesn't follow fads. Christianity follows Jesus. His Light shone to the whole world and He commands us to shine our lights as well. Amen.
