Moment of Meditation: Fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17)
[Jesus said:] "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets;
I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill."
(Matthew 5:17)
A recent letter to the editor encouraged us to vote and live as Jesus would have us. Jesus followed the Ten Commandments. He didn't come to get rid of the Old Testament. He came to fulfill the Old Testament. He came to live it out perfectly because we cannot.
Society wants us to abolish the Law. It wants us to abolish the Scriptures that God has revealed to us. As we'll see next time, "not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law" (5:18). Jesus says that nothing will change from the Law. What Moses said was sinful and an abomination to God is still an abomination. It doesn't matter what society tells us. We have an eternal Word from Heaven.
That Word became flesh and dwelled among us (John 1:14). He walked and talked with us. Explained to us the Father's will. Continue to listen to His words and not the satanic voices of the world around us for what is right and what is wrong. Amen.
