Reuters photographer Darrin Zammit Lupi is no stranger to important news events; the South-East Asia tsunami tragedy, the refugee crisis during the war in Kosovo, the war in Libya, the Costa Concordia disaster, the Mediterranean refugees crisis. The moment we pick up a camera we have the ability to do good and important things; to record history, to make potent stories about life. For some people, some photographers, these are images that shape opinion, garner connection, even change lives. It’s easy to think that to make such pictures, you need to be filing big international stories, when often the story is with us and all around us, and in this case within a room in a hospital with the most precious person in your life.
