This week on #TubtaNabadda, we mark the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, which is observed globally on 6 November every year.
We interview Ahmed Yusuf Ahmed, Director General, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Office of the Prime Minister, about the impact of conflict on the environment, and Federal Government of Somalia’s initiatives to protect the environment and manage natural resources in a way that is sustainable and equitable.
We also discuss with Christopher Hodder, UN environmental advisor to Somalia, about the connection between environment and conflict prevention and peacebuilding in Somalia. He also explains what the UN does to support Somali authorities, communities, women and youth groups in their efforts to protect the environment while building long-lasting peace.
