Depeche Mode Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
Episode 116: Depeche Mode Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction 2020
Here's something that hasn't happened in a while-- an emergency episode of the Permanent Record Podcast! What could cause the hosts to pause their discussion of Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo? Why, Depeche Mode of course! The boys from Basildon were officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Brian and Sarah definitely couldn't let such an event pass by without talking about it!
The ceremony was different from previous years, in that there were no live performances. Instead, a mini-documentary was shown, featuring a wide variety of guests who each spoke about the band's importance and influence on their own lives as well as to music in general. These features were interspersed with excerpts of past interviews from the band members along with video clips and concert footage spanning Depeche's nearly 40-year career.
Following this montage, Andy, Dave, and Martin appeared together-- on split-screens-- to accept the award and express gratitude to the many people who have been a part of their musical journey and their lives over the past four decades.
Join Brian and Sarah as they discuss the event, the guests, the music selections, and the Zoom meeting with the three current band members. Our hosts also share comments and voicemails from friends of the show who watched the ceremony too. It's a quick but fun conversation about a well-deserved honor for a legendary band!
