Moment of Meditation: Divorce (Matthew 5:31-32)
"It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife,
let him give her a certificate of divorce.'
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife,
except on the ground of sexual immorality,
makes her commit adultery,
and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
(Matthew 5:31-32)
Divorce is not the answer to marital problems. It is not the cure. It just adds another problem. There is one valid reason for divorce: sexual infidelity. Other than that, there is very little reason to justify a divorce in God's eyes.
Divorce brings baggage into a relationship that needs not be there. Baggage that is just as likely to break up the new relationship as it did the old.
Divorce is not the answer. God has given you your spouse. Love, honor, cherish and forgive the one you are with now. Amen.
