Artemis is the Founder and Managing Director of The Garden, a democratic learning community in Bristol. Artemis is a parent, experienced home educator, Registered Childminder, Forest School Leader and qualified teacher.
An engineer by training, their background is in environmental policy and consultancy but since becoming a parent, education has become the focus of their intellectual curiosity. They founded The Garden with the intention of providing a self managed learning community for their children as well as the many local families who sought a collective but autonomous form of education.
They are an advocate for children and young people’s rights and interested in how this relates to hierarchy and systems of oppression in society. Through the Garden, Artemis and their colleagues have developed a system of conflict resolution that negates the need for hierarchy and control when working with young people.
They also offer consultancy in setting up education projects and training in conflict resolution and transformative justice with children or adults.
