How to Elegantly Navigate ALL of Life’s Challenges |Tanya Kirkpatrick | David T.S. Wood
Many women are struggling with authenticity and transparency in a world that exerts pressure on them to be perfect. Women tend to get lost in their children and their spouses. When their kids are grown and out of the home, they feel they have nothing left to contribute. That it’s too late to transition. But according to Tanya Kirkpatrick, you can make this the best chapter of your life. Tanya is authentic, transparent, and passionate about coming alongside women and lifting them up. Don’t miss this insightful and encouraging episode of My Extra Mile.

Tanya loves to speak with women about setting intentions. What would it look like if you were to make some shifts in your life? What would be the qualities of a woman who sets those intentions?
She encourages women to write a top-ten list of their non-negotiables. That is who you want to be. It’s about becoming the person you most want to attract. Becoming that is falling in love with who you are and who you’re equipped to be. Tanya says the next step is to put your intentions on sticky notes around your mirror or somewhere where you see them day and night. Make them “I am” statements:
I am a woman who loves her body I am empowered to make good choices I am a woman who supports her family I am a beautiful individual
Do not settle. Once you settle, you continue to settle. It becomes your identity and you lose your vision for your future. Think of your authentic self. It’s the self that portrays love, kindness, compassion, and empathy. Tap into that part of yourselves and don’t give in to the negative voice you’re conditioned to believe. We hear everything that we speak out—so why not put the good stuff out into the universe?
Do you SEE the people around you?
Tanya shares that she has an amazing cleaning lady. One day, her cleaning lady came to her and said that she was struggling with her health. She asked for Tanya’s help. Tanya felt so convicted. This woman has been in her house every week for over a year and Tanya didn’t see her.
Tanya challenges you: Do you see the people around you? Do you open doors for people? Do you say thank you? Tanya said to herself: “Never again will I ever have someone in our home and not serve them.” Are you mindful of the people around you? Learn to see the people around you who are desperately looking for what you have to offer.
Humans are blessed with the gift of choice
If you don’t like your job, your family, or yourself, what are YOU going to do about it? You hold the power to change. Amazing people don’t just happen. Tanya has lived through sexual and physical abuse. She’s in tears when she says that she attempted suicide. The nurse at the hospital told her, “You’re here for a reason. Don’t ever give that away.”
If she can push past her experiences, you have the power to do it as well. If you need someone to say, “Yes, you can.” Tanya is there for you. Give yourself permission to do the work to become the next level of you. It is going to take you standing in the gap for yourself to move forward.
Where do you see yourself going from here? Where will you show up? How can you help others get there? How can you bring more value to this world? How will you pour into younger generations? How can you blaze a trail for younger women?
Tanya emphasizes that you can’t grow and expand and be a next-level servant leader without challenges. It takes growth and grit. Tanya is passionate about coming alongside women and saying, “You’re not alone.” Listen to the whole episode of My Extra Mile to hear her amazing journey.
