Why Household Political Disputes Should Never Tear You Apart

The US Presidential election has brought up many points of contention between voters of all parties in recent weeks, and my household has been no exception.

Our family has never traditionally spoken at lengths on politics as, generally, it hasn’t been a topic that’s been raised all too often. Though, as my children are becoming young adults and forming their own opinions on the issues that affect their country, disagreements are bound to happen. Most recently, a heated debate came up in my household between my children which challenged me both on a personal level and as a parent.

Hearing what they said to each other was painful, and whilst I’m so grateful that they have such passionate and strong points of view, it was only another reminder that our politics do not have to define us. I sincerely hope that this new administration brings a new era for peace, hope, and an end to the division that has tainted our nation for far too long.
