28 - Kishotenketsu, Japan's Terrible 4 Act Story Structure in Persona 5

This episode is rather negative, which is not the point of focus for this channel. However, it is important to note that my criticism of this unique story structure is not a criticism of different cultural sensiblities. I attempted to emphasize this by using another Japanese story by a Japanese author to demonstrate an evolution of the Kishotenketsu structure that is superior to the problems that Kishotenketsu creates. When using the traditional structure, it is best when the story does not treat the "twist" arch as a twist at all, but as a random act of interference or Nature as Antagonist. Transforming an entire "act" of showing and explaining a twist that was nonextant in the story into an obstacle to progress the rising action. The Virtue of the unforseen obstacle is to reflect true life, but not to be done at the expense of telling a coherent narrative.
