Moment of Meditation: Hallowed Name (Matthew 6:9)
Your name be hallowed. Help us, Lord,
in purity to keep Your Word,
that to the glory of Your name
we walk before You free from blame.
Let no false teaching us pervert;
all poor deluded souls convert.
(LSB #766.2)
Jesus' name needs not to be hallowed, kept holy, by us. It is holy in itself. The glory of His name leads us to walk blameless before Him. Each Christian has been baptized into His holy name. In that Baptism, He presents each of His children blameless before Him (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Many come in the name of the Lord Jesus to pervert the Gospel message (Luke 21:8ff). St. Paul reminds us, "But even if we or an angel from Heaven should preach to you a Gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed" (Galatians 1:8). Cursed be anyone who would use Jesus' name to perpetuate a lie. The Gospel is the proclamation of Jesus' holy name for each and every soul who hears it. May the pure and holy name of Jesus be a blessing to you today. Amen.
