Moment of Meditation: Gracious Will (Matthew 6:10)
Your gracious will on earth be done
as it is done before Your throne,
that patiently we may obey
throughout our lives all that You say.
Curb flesh and blood and every ill
that sets itself against Your will.
(LSB #766.4)
"God's [good and gracious] will is done when He breaks and hinders every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world and our sinful nature, which do not want us to hallow God's name or let His kingdom come" (SC III 8). The Third Petition of the Lord's Prayer is a prayer for the First and Second Petitions to be answered. Every day we fight against those who don't want God's name to be kept holy and those who don't want God's Kingdom to come through His Son.
As Christians, we want God's will to be done in our lives. Many times His will is not our will. But we bow to His will because He is the Almighty. The Omniscient Lord of all. He sees the big picture of how these things will affect our lives and the lives of those around us.
Jesus Himself prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane that God's will be done. This prayer we continue to pray according to our Lord's example. It may not be what we want. But we believe that God works everything--EVERYTHING--out for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). May God's good and gracious will be done in your life. Amen.
