Moment of Meditation: Daily Bread (Matthew 6:11)

Give us this day our daily bread,
and let us all be clothed and fed.
Save us from hardship, war, and strife;
in plague and famine, spare our life,
that we in honest peace may live,
to care and greed no entrance give.

In the Lord's Prayer, daily bread does not just concern the loaf of bread on the table. It covers the entirety of everything we need to support this body and life. God gives us everything we need to survive. It is our duty, in this petition, to accept these gifts with thanksgiving and praise.
With our thanksgiving, we make all of our petitions known to God. We ask for food to eat. Clothes to wear. Government to allow us to lead peaceful lives. Weather appropriate for the season. Rain for the crops. Snow for the snowmobilers and the snowman builders.
All of these blessings, and more, we ask in this petition. And God requires of us to recognize His gifts in these blessings and thank Him for them.
Lord, bless us with everything we need today and grant us thankful hearts to receive them from Your hand. Amen.
