An Omaha native, Deborah became the first female United States Attorney for Nebraska in 2009. She quickly was recognized for her leadership skills while United States Attorney by her appointment as Chair of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s Federal Task Force on Violence Against Native American women followed by appointment to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s Advisory Committee. She was instrumental in developing one of four pilot projects in the United States to dedicate an Assistant U.S. Attorney to the Nebraska tribes for the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence and sexual assault cases against Native American women. The project resulted in an increase of 43% of cases indicted.
