Moment of Meditation: To Be Seen (Matthew 6:1)
"Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people
in order to be seen by them,
for then you will have no reward
from your Father who is in Heaven.
(Matthew 6:1)
Are you an exhibitionist Christian? Do you like people to see how righteous you are? Do you like to get a pat on your back for your religiosity? Then Jesus has strong words for you. You have already received your reward. The praise of others is all you can count on.
There is no eternal reward for exhibitionism. Exhibitionism is hypocritical. Jesus doesn't condemn good deeds. He condemns the announcement, "Hey, everybody! Look at me!" Your good works aren't supposed to point to yourself. Your good works are supposed to point to Jesus. Point to Jesus with your good works today. Amen.
