Moment of Meditation: Left and Right (Matthew 6:3-4)
But when you give to the needy,
do not let your left hand know
what your right hand is doing,
so that your giving may be in secret.
(Matthew 6:3-4)
Give generously. These are Jesus' words to you this morning. "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7). You cannot be cheerful if you're keeping track of each penny that you're giving away. With apologies to the accountants who might be listening, bookkeeping is not a cheerful thing. Balancing to make sure both sides of the ledger are equal. Not cheerful.
No one is cheerful trying to balance life. Worrying that everything must be fair. God is not fair. In salvation He gives you more than you could possibly ever deserve. He withholds from you what you do deserve. He gives His grace away freely. He doesn't count who gets more grace than someone else. He rewards you according to His graciousness. Grace that neither His left hand or His right hand keeps track of. Amen.
