Moment of Meditation: Forgive (Matthew 6:14-15)
For if you forgive others their trespasses,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you,
but if you do not forgive others their trespasses,
neither will your heavenly Father forgive your trespasses.
(Matthew 6:14-15)
Forgiveness is often one of the hardest Christian practices to master. By nature, we don't want to forgive. But we want to be forgiven. We want to hold people accountable until we feel that they've paid the price for their sins. But we never EVER want to be the one held accountable.
We seek forgiveness from our heavenly Father. We hear all the time about Jesus' free forgiveness for everyone. We hear about unconditional forgiveness. But Jesus here tells us forgiveness is conditional. But we read the condition the wrong way. We're not forgiven because we forgive. We forgive because we're forgiven.
Has God forgiven us all our sins through Jesus' death on the cross? Yes. How do we see this? By His grace, we become better at forgiving those who have wronged us. He points to His forgiveness toward us and says, "I've forgiven so much. Can't you forgive so little?" Amen.
