The Playbook With David Meltzer
Business:Entrepreneurship
What does “Don't lie to yourself” mean? Well, our ego has many needs, including a need to be offended. Due to our ego, we often put conditions, judgments, and higher expectations on others than we do for ourselves. We also fall into the trap of not receiving the truth well, but the truth always has a way of coming out.
Why or what are we hiding when we avoid the truth? We’re getting in our own way and missing out on an opportunity to grow. Fyodor Dostoevsky said, “The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie, comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and others. And having no respect he ceases to love.” Above all, don’t lie to yourself.
