Moment of Meditation: Light of the Body (Matthew 6:22-23)
The eye is the lamp of the body.
So, if your eye is healthy,
your whole body will be full of light,
but if your eye is bad,
your whole body will be full of darkness.
(Matthew 6:22-23)
The eye allows either the light of the Gospel or the darkness of sin into your soul. While Jesus reminds us that it's what comes out of a person that makes them unclean (Matthew 15:11), what we allow into our souls through our eyes alters our inmost desires.
If we allow our eyes to be filled with things that are expressly against God's will, our eyes are diseased and our soul will not be far behind. If we fill our eyes and our minds with those things which are pleasing to God, our eyes are healthy and our souls refreshed by the Holy Spirit.
St. Paul encourages us: "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things" (Philippians 4:8). Amen.
