Amy Baglan is both a Type A Entrepreneur and a committed mindful meditator. The founder of MeetMindful, an app and movement that connects spiritually engaged people for both dating and friendship, Amy drives hard for achievement, and also consciously aims for that "being OK in the moment" vibe that doesn't depend on external success.
I wanted to talk to Amy about dating, and romance, and sex; topics highly correlated with health and happiness, and topics that I've managed to avoid pretty much completely over five years of this podcast.
We began our conversation at a common place - the challenges of chasing achievement and still engaging in self-care. Now that I've co-founded a startup, I'm finding the need to raise my game in order to get my self-care time.
- The runs now have to be scheduled.
- Stretching and strength work and breath practices have to be squeezed in.
- The long and lazy cooking sessions are feeling like an indulgence.
- And meditation just brings up my coked-up hamster brain's infinite "Why haven't you already done this?" list.
Amy shared some of her best insights and mindsets with me (and you), and now the work is to apply those insights on a daily basis. Rather than experiencing tension between mindfulness and results-driven activity, she invites us to weave mindfulness into our work, and see our work as an outgrowth of our spirituality.
And then we got to the sex conversation... :)
I hope you're as inspired and charmed by Amy as I am. We covered:
