Moment of Meditation: Don't Be Anxious (Matthew 6:25)
"Do not be anxious about your life."
(Matthew 6:25)
Jesus' words this morning are definitely easier said than done. Who within the sound of voice has '''NEVER''' gotten anxious? It's impossible. You could even say Jesus was anxious in the Garden of Gethsemane as He prayed, "If it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39).
Jesus' anxious agony was filled with faith in His Father's plan of salvation. "If it be possible." If there was another way, but Jesus knew from all eternity that this was the only way. Did He pine over the choices in front of Him? Absolutely not. He straightened up and made sure the Apostles were ready for what was going to happen to Him.
His anxiety was not for Himself. His anxiety was for His Apostles. His anxiety was even for you. "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word" (John 17:20). Jesus prayed for you in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was anxious for you to believe in Him through the Apostles' word. The Word that has been handed down to us in the Bible. Read it and bid the anxious thoughts of life begone as God reveals Himself as Creator and Father of all who will be raised to everlasting life. Amen.
